SKSA offers various levels of play to accommodate all players regardless of their skill level. Please find the additional details below outlining the various levels of play. Also note that these have been updated to reflect the Nations Baseball program criteria for classification. Additional classification details are available at www.nations-baseball.com.
NOTE: Teams with a classification of Select, Elite or Premier are required to register with Nations Baseball. Recreational teams within the Metro classification will not be sanctioned this fall as we make the transition to Nations Baseball.
Metro - Recreational (formerly "A" Baseball)
This is our recreational baseball program. Players are registered individually and the league forms the rosters based on their age group and by considering the player's school, subdivision, and general area. Our "Metro" coaches are volunteers from our community and they establish their own practice times and locations. Games are played Monday through Thursday and on Saturdays. Some double headers may be scheduled for weekends. Weekday games are scheduled for 6:00 PM or 8:00 PM for ages 9-14, 6:00 PM or 7:30 PM for ages 5-8. Saturday games are scheduled throughout the day. Rain outs games are rescheduled for Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. SKSA rules require minimum playing time for each player. Any "Metro" team enjoying a certain level of success together will either be reclassified as "Select" or be dissolved the next season to maintain as level competition as possible.
Friendship Teams (Metro)
The Friendship Teams Program will allow a coach to bring a fully formed team into the Single "Metro" league. The goal of the Friendship Team Program is to allow friends (scouts, church, neighborhood, private school, etc.) to play baseball together. Friendship Teams will not be formed by recruiting higher skilled players from other teams or by holding player tryouts. There are strict guidelines in place regarding the formation of these teams and the SKSA Baseball Board will closely evaluate and approve all Friendship Team rosters to protect the integrity of the Friendship Team concept. The purpose of this approval process is to reduce the chance of a Friendship Team outclassing the other "Metro" competition. These teams must maintain the full spirit of the program or risk being reclassified as "Select" as deemed appropriate by the SKSA Baseball Board.
Select Baseball (Formerly "AA")
This is a more competitive level of baseball and the next progressive level of play for a player to advance their skills. These teams are pre-formed by the coach and they may hold player tryouts to select players for their roster. Parents enter into independent agreements directly with the coach as opposed to being assigned to a team by our league. Many of these teams participate in local baseball tournaments in addition to playing in the Spring Klein league. The "Select" teams are responsible for supplying their own equipment, and uniforms. Insurance is included as part of your Nations Baseball registration. SKSA will host player showcase (tryout) in January to introduce interested players to teams. Since parents are entering into an independent agreement with the coach, parents are cautioned to interview the coach closely to ensure their plans align with the best interest of your player because these teams may cut and add players throughout the year.
Elite Baseball (Formerly "AAA")
This is a very competitive level of baseball. The Elite teams are also pre-formed by the coach and they are free to hold player tryouts to fill their rosters. Parents also enter into independent agreements directly with the coach as opposed to being assigned to a team by our league. These teams participate in a more baseball tournaments in addition to playing in the Spring Klein league. The Elite teams are also responsible for supplying their own equipment, and uniforms. Insurance is included as part of your Nations Baseball registration. SKSA will host player showcase (tryout) in January to help introduce interested players to the teams.
