Umpires

Join The SKSA Team

The Spring-Klein Umpire Association (SKUA) is the premier training grounds for baseball umpires in Houston. Led by current and former NCAA and Professional umpires, we offer training for all skill levels—from beginners to seasoned veterans.

2026 Summer Training Schedule

  • Basic I (Beginners): Mondays (Starts Aug 17)   6–9 PM for 6 weeks.
  • Focus: 1-umpire mechanics, modified 2-umpire mechanics for closed bases, and closed-base rules. Completion will qualifiy you to work closed base baseball games such as Tee Ball and Coach Pitch. Most other associations recognize our training and accept it. Wear comfortable athletic attire for outdoor activities. First night is a free orientation that will cover expectations required of an umpire, proper attire/uniform/equipment that is needed, overall costs to get started, and mechanics formation. After the first night if you feel it's not the right time or the job isn't for you, drop out and you got a little training for free. There is not an age requirement, but the profession requires leadership skills, maturity, and some thick skin.
  • Cost: $50 (First-time students) / Free (Returning).
  • Basic II (Intermediate): Thursdays (Starts Aug 20)   6–9 PM for 6 weeks.
  • Focus: 2-man mechanics, open bases (9U+), and plate mechanics.
  • Cost: $50 (First-time students) / Free (Returning).
  • Advanced 2-Man Camp: TBD late Jan.
  • Focus: High-level live game evaluations and video review.
  • Cost: Free for SKUA Members / $125 for Non-members.
